Blood Knot, written and directed by Athol Fugard, opens on February 16 at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at off-Broadway’s brand new Pershing Square Signature Center. The revival of Fugard’s classic South African drama will play a limited engagement until March 11, starring Colman Domingo and Scott Shepherd. Blood Knot is the inaugural production in the new Signature Center space.
Set just outside Port Elizabeth, South Africa, Blood Knot is the story of two biracial brothers, Morris (Shepherd) and Zach (Domingo). While Morris has light skin and has passed for white in the past, Zach, who has dark skin, must work at a park for whites only. Together, the brothers struggle with their poverty, isolation, and the blood knot bonding them together.
The Blood Knot creative team includes set designer Christopher H. Barreca, costume designer Susan Hilferty, lighting designer Stephen Strawbridge and sound designer Brett Jarvis.
